RE: Help with name of Mississippi State Park name

About 8 hrs south of St Louis would put you in the general area of either George Cossar SP at Enid or Hugh White SP near Grenada.

RE: Zenith DTT901 Digital converter box

I've got two 901. I've also played with Digital Stream, Magnavox, and Philco which is why I ended up with the 901 model. I prefer the Zenith to the others. If I couldn't get a 901 and just had to have one in a hurry I'd get a Digital Stream but that would be only if the Zenith wasn't available. The others took longer to lock onto signals and the Zenith received better signals. I also noticed the Digital Stream seemed to be just a bit warm but I don't know if that really hurts anything.
Same as trnfla, I like the signal strength meter/tone. Like ScottG I have one mounted on end and it looks/works fine.
What I also like about the Zenith is after scanning for channels it has a feature where you can redirect your antenna and do another scan to pick up additional channels without it losing the channels from the first scan.
If you do a web search of the Zenith DTT901 you'll find several evaluations done by various organizations. Here's CNET's review. CNET 901 review You'll find the 901 gets consistently very high ratings. Also do a search for other makes of converters. You'll find that the Zenith is the one they compare all the others to.

RE: Digital Converter FYI

Someone told us today that we had to have a Wineguard converter box or the antenna would blow our box. He said an RV tec told him that. True or False. We already got other boxes. Thx
Sounds like infor from someone who sells only Wineguard converter boxes, which, BTW, are typically higher priced than similar converter boxes which work just as well if not better.
Youre antenna will not blow out your box or do anything else negative to your system regardless what kind of name is on the box. I've been using my Zenith boxes since June. Also used Digital Stream and have played with a couple of others. Absolutely no problems.

RE: WATER HEATER PLUG IN OR OUT?

My WH is a Suburban. I took a plastic fitting with the right size threads on one end and a hose fitting on the other. Over the hose fitting end I put a piece of screen wire held in place with a hose clamp.
When I winterize I drain all the water, flush the tank as best as I can to remove any scaling/lime, put in just enough antifreeze where a bit of pink comes out of the drain hole, switch the bypass valve, continue winterizing rest of the water system. I then put the plastic fitting where the anode tube/plug goes so the tank dries and no critters make themselves at home during the winter.

Can't help you with anything on the north side. A couple of months ago we stayed at Hagen Stone City Park which is about 3 miles south of I-85 near Pleasant Garden, NC. Very nice quiet park.

RE: Hooking up TV Digital Converter Boxes

No one I've talked to can answer this question. With the analog pass through type converter box and when hooked up to digital cable TV at an RV park, will the cable signal pass through the box un disturbed if the box is turned off?
Since you have an analog pass thru converter box when you either turn off the box or disable it (depending on the make) then cable signals pass thru just fine. We've been using our converter boxes since June with both the antenna and cable.

RE: We get fewer stations after connecting the converter????

This past weekend while camping I "fixed" 2 other campers TVs after they installed their digital converters. Prior to connecting their converters they said they had been getting good analog pictures but they were now cussing up a storm about the new digital signals, government boondoggle and interference, lack of freedom, etc because with the converter connected they got nothing. I was within 2 camp sites of both of them and I was getting 10 digital stations with my converter. They were getting no picture at all using either analog or the converter. It was an easy "fix". In both cases they had set their TVs to cable instead of antenna. I have no idea why they thought they had to change their TV settings to cable just because they connected a converter. Switching their TV settings back to antenna got them the exact same channels I was receiving.

RE: Digital TV On The Road - Your Experience

We were in Nashville a month ago. Got 5 analog stations which had a picture good enough to watch altho some snow. Also got 24 digital stations which were strong enough to lock in. The bad part was there wasn't anything worth watching on any of them. All junk TV.

RE: Overheight violation -- almost !!!

You are legal. 14' is the national (USA) height limit on the interstate system. You will still find plenty of old structures that were built for the old 13'6" regs and before that even. I can't see them giving you a ticket unless you ignored warning signs prior to the alarm.
That is not correct. Some states, including IL, have max legal height of 13'6" which applies even on the interstate highway system.
And before you cry BS here's the IL statute. This is the entire statute. You will note there is no exception for interstate highway system. BTW, I taught vehicle code law for over 25 years and was recognized as a subject matter expert by the IL Supreme Court, the IL circuit courts, the IL Legislature, and the IL Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
(625 ILCS 5/15?103) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 15?103)
Sec. 15?103. Height of vehicles. The height of a vehicle from the under side of the tire to the top of the vehicle, inclusive of load, shall not exceed 13 feet, 6 inches on any highway in the State.
A person convicted of violating this Section is subject to the penalty provided in paragraph (b) of Section 15?113.
We have height sensors at all our fixed scales and have had for many years. It's a pretty simple device. Just an electric eye set at 13'6" that sounds the buzzer when something crosses the eye.
You have to be very careful with low underpass signage particularly on secondary roads. Some may have signs saying 13'6" or what ever other height clearance but since the sign was placed they have resurfaced the roadway thus reducing the clearance. They are suppose to either keep the clearance the same or post new signs but that sometimes doesn't happen. So even tho the sign says 13'6" the actual clearance might only be 13'4" or less.
If the sign's say nothing over 13'6" , it mean's THAT not 14'. It is there for a reason, in this case if you would of proceeded you would have your a/c on the ground for someone else to run over. And yes the warning alarm's are right, NOT A ESTIMATE.
Exactly correct. Height restrictions aren't like speed limits where you can fudge a few MPH, won't get stopped, and no one will know. If the height of the clearance is only 13'6" then you can't make it fit and squeeze thru thinking no one will know. Replacing damaged AC units are cheap. Paying to have the overpass inspected and repairs to the overpass damage isn't cheap.
If anyone wants to check the laws for a particular state the Library of Congress has all the statutes available on the internet. State Statutes

RE: DTV converter..which ones suck, which ones are good

If you do an internet search you'll find that the top 2 rated converters are the Zenith DTT901 (or Insignia from Best Buy) or the Digital Stream model. I forget the DS model number, something like 9950. Both are pretty well reviewed and each has a feature or 2 the other doesn't. I ended up with the Zenith as I preferred the programning info on the Zenith over the DS. Others may like the DS programming info better, personal preference. Cost is the same for either. I tried an early DS (9900) against an early Zenith (900). The Zenith locked on channels quicker and programmed quicker.
They both worked pretty well after programming.

RE: Digital Box setup AGAIN

so what you are saying is that you can have two splitters and a short cable and hook the cable in parallel to your converter and when your converter is off it passes analog just fine?
bumpy if so great. :)
Only need 1 splitter. The antenna cable connects to the input on the splitter. Then connect a cable from one of the outputs on the splitter to the normal connection on your TV. The other output on the splitter goes to the input on the converter box. Coming out of the converter box use the A/V cables and connect to the A/V inputs on your TV.

RE: Digital Box setup AGAIN

set your splitter at the back of the tv. when your box is off the tv will pick out the cable connection vise/versa.
This is what I was thinking. So a splitter will work?
A splitter will work fine. I have a Zenith DTT900 hooked up with a splitter. If I want digital I turn the converter on. If I want analog or cable then the converter is turned off.
Some TVs have a "game channel" which if you feed the converter into those connections then you don't have to turn your TV off. Your digital signals will be on the "game channel" and your analog or cable channels will operate normally.

RE: Is it legal to leave the drawbar/ball in when not towing?

Never heard it being illegal, please attach a copy of the V.C. and what state it came from.
If you're going to ask the question then at least read the posts on this thread first.
See Page 3. I already posted it.
Here's IL's statute:
(625 ILCS 5/12-614 new)
Sec. 12-614. Trailer hitch; length limit when not in use.
A person may not operate or permit to be operated on any highway of this State a vehicle with a trailer hitch that extends more than 4 inches beyond the rear of the vehicle, unless that vehicle is towing another vehicle.

RE: Western Illinois question

Argyle Lake SP is nice. Sites are level and generally well spaced. We've stayed there in early November but can't say how late it will be open this year. Argyle SP
Spring Lake Campground is north of Macomb and just a bit closer than Argyle SP. It's a city park campground. Fairly nice too. The campground facilities use to stay open until Thanksgiving but the park was open year round. Spring Lake campground

RE: Is it legal to leave the drawbar/ball in when not towing?

It could be illegal in IL. It depends on how far it sticks out from the vehicle. It's not like the police are out looking for bars sticking out 7" from a vehicle but if you're involved in a crash where someone hits you from behind then it could be grounds for a citation.
That could mean it will screw up settlement between insurance companies. Many states are looking at laws concerning hitches that stick out so far because of the insurance lobby. What companies do is called comparative neglegence. It's figured by percentage. In a hypothetical crash you might be 25% at fault and they other party 75% at fault. The companies would pay accordingly. If you are legally stopped and someone runs into the rear of you generally their insurance company will pay damages. However, if you have objects on your vehicle which resulted in more damage than would normally be involved then your company may be assessed a percentage of fault for damages. That could end up costing you more in higher premiums.

RE: Washington D.C.

but my worry would be all the trees. It looked very heavily forested.. We are now full time and need our computers, phones and satellite. Too, many trees are not good for us.
It wasn't a problem for us. There are some sites that are covered with trees but most just have shade and you won't have trouble getting sat connect.

Prince William National Forest is 30 miles south of WDC at Dumfries, VA. PWFP
They have a pretty decent campground with some full hook ups and others with water and electric. Travel Trailer Village We've stayed there several times and when going back to WDC we'll stay there again. Very easy access to I-95. Fairly quiet and very shaded.
